It would be - and is - very easy to knock 'subsistence' expenses as something of a luxury. But if you're doing a 12 hour shift on a stalellite truck on location, I don't really think you can knock a fiver being spent on a sandwich and coffee can you? And remember, subsistence also covers hotels where necessary.

That said, many people don't claim for stuff they could. Most sports reporters I know drive long distances back from away matches, on top of their regular shift of five or six hours on air.

Where it gets unacceptable is where staff claim large expenses under the pretence of being 'at work'. I remember Mark Byford's trip to the World Cup Final. The tickets were a gift, but he flew to South Africa first class because he was 'traevelling straight from the airport to a BBC meeting'. At the time, first class travel was allowed for managers if they were 'on duty'. I think that's changed now, and quite rightly so.

Flciking through some of the other Executive expenses, many do seem to be showing restraint. Doesn't mean that's always been the case though!

Very good point
Are the expenses of the audit comitee disclosed, then?
Or all sources of their income, for that matter?
Because it's them who should be dealing with excess of spending

Great initiative but then, what's the outreach of radio stations to the teenagers and age groups of the like? It's not too, big, is it?

Is the pdf then available for obtaining?

I wouldn't think an exe file would be an attack attempt, but surely, deleting was a good call. Interesting, maybe just the extension was wrong.

BBC World Service / Re: Do you Think the News can be Less Negative?

I think there's a correlation between the level of subsistence of the social factor and the news beinig negative or positive - should there be more everyday activism, the demand for the news would change and news more construcrive would be expected.
