No Honour & No Portrait For Mark Thompson
« on: February 09, 2014, 06:24:09 PM »
After he was overlooked in the recent honours list and after the recent hoo-ha over MP's commissioning works of art of themselves the BBC has denied it plans to portray Mark Thompson in oils - probably because it wouldn't stick? - after the Daily Mail claimed moves were afoot.

Perhaps a portrait that was twice over budget and 17% smaller than those of Birt and Dyke would be an ideal commission?  Something in homage to Iain Duncan Smith's own portrait in the palace of Westminster.

Hello Ladies!

Or perhaps something by Billy Childish?

No honour & no portrait for Mark Thompson.

They say a picture paints a thousand words.

This thread title sums it up in 8 words.

The only DG is history not be honoured or painted speaks much about the man.

There does seem to be an increase this weekend in BBC articles in the press - although perhaps it's just my imagining? - but this one caught my eye.  The Observer reporting that yes the BBC is no longer going to pay thousands for portraits of an ex Director General.  Hurrah! I say, a concept which belongs to a bygone age and one MP's would do well to follow.

Although I will say, they report that architect of the current BBC, Mark Thompson, had been in discussions about choosing an artist for his, there is no truth in the rumour that he was favouring a Pollard.
