Adverts on BBC World Service?
« on: February 19, 2014, 08:21:55 PM »
Peter Horrocks was desperately attempting to justify the inclusion of advertisements on the World Service, today on the Media Show.  Not an easy thing to do within the realms of integrity and within the realms of the mess the Trust and Thompson made of the last - behind closed doors - licence fee settlement.  The responses on Twitter that Steve Hewlett read out will have done little to reassure Horrocks that the position is tenable.

After this weeks Media Show - you remember the one, the one where Steve Hewlett read out some tweets right? - Peter Horrocks personally responded to those who had answered the following tweet, sent to at least 150,000 people on Twitter.

All 10 (yes Ten) who responded made it clear in 140 characters that this was not an idea they felt comfortable with, or one that the BBC should, echoing as best you can on Twitter the concerns put forward by Hewlett in the programme.

Peter included a link to this piece as the argument for the World Service to take advertising.
