Head in Hands moment!

Dianne Coyle acting head of BBC Trust thanks Government for not politicising Charter renewal!!!

I think she probably needs to start with the press cuttings about decrimilalisation of the licence fee.

Even the BBC News website can help her there.

Very depressing.

If she is going to represent the public she will need to accept that questions will be asked.

This is mine. And it would be good for democracy if the public that she claims to represent also take her to task.No rush!

Very depressing.

She will also need to answer questions about her role over the last few years as vice chair. She did not oppose the last fee settlement, she failed to monitor the DMI project that has cost millions. She did not see press cuttings about Savile that were sent to her, months before ITV had to step in. She was an important figure in the Trust during most of Mark Thompson's leadership and therefore was implicit in allowing huge payoffs.

Dianne Coyle is one of the reasons why trust in the BBC has failed.

She is the problem and not the solution."

And there is no justifucation for Seb Coe to be appointed. That would be like appointing Chris Patten again! And has to be resisted. That appointment was clearly in the mind of DCMS when they extended the deadline and revised the hours required. See above.

This should not be a political appointment. Neither should it be about a puppet being appointed (Dianne Coyle) It has to be about the right person on merit, that cares about public service broadcasting and the future of the BBC to deliver that without fear or favour.

I expect that there are candidates of merit that have applied and those candidates are not acceptable to senior civil servants or to Savid Javid's office, because they are independent of that influence.

It is that quality of independence that is essential., however, this time.
