In the fee settlement of 2010 Mark Thompson agreed covertly with Jeremy Hunt to give many many millions of BBC licence fee money to Hunt's pet project, local commercial TV. Michael Lyons, Chair of the BBC Trust failed to protect licence fee payers and even question this. But that was probably because he was soon tempted away from public duty and became a leading corporate figure in local TV. That does not excuse Diane Coyle and others from discharging their duty at the Trust, they just went with it?

Anyway , as predicted by this Forum many years ago this venture was bound to fail and it has. It is worth reading the words of John Myers here.

There is no doubt that Jeremy Hunt has little credibility, and please do not forget his role at BSkyB he was hand in hand with Murdoch and used his position to corrupt purpose. When found out he blamed his poor SPAD . Hunt is probably the reason that many will never trust Cameron.

So, is that money going to be refunded from the failed local TV project to the public who were unaware that they were paying in the first place? The BBC Trust will need to start earning their money and asking questions about that and indeed stopping any further money that is, of course public money that they are responsibile for, going further down the drain or paying for those like Michael Lyons. Who is asking them to do that?
