The BBC has decided to deny the Green Party an opportunity to contribute and engage with the electorate in television debates leading up to the next general election.

The Guardian is reporting the story BBC refuses to include Green party in general election TV leader debates.

the BBC appears to be acting as a worrying brake on democratic change; I believe they are failing to grasp that the future of politics doesn't look like the past

This BBC attitude is contributing dangerously to the buildup of frustration and disillusionment with politics in the UK. We have seen nearly 200,000 people sign a petition demanding that Greens be included in the leaders' debates based on natural justice and fairness.

So far as I can see the BBC website is not reporting the story...

It looks like the stars may be aligning for Rona Fairhead and the BBC Trust.

According to their workplan for 2014they were due to consult on the BBC's editorial guidelines and set party election broadcast criteria and election guidelines for elections in May 2015 and with the shifting sands of the political landscape this now looks like it could be a hugely important piece of work.

The BBC Trust has today quietly launched:

Consultation on draft Guidelines for elections to the UK Parliament and for English local government in 2015

and

Consultation on proposed criteria for Party Election Broadcasts in 2015

Neither can be completed online, you can however make submissions in an old-skool fashion via email or via the post office!
