A BBC charity has been handed 90m by Andrew Mitchell, the international development secretary, to help to protect The World Service and the work it does.

This is quite controversial.

And does prompt the question, does not BBC local radio also deserve protection in this way. It is our nation's public service. And is a lifeline in a similar way to the World Service. Well of course these decisions are taken, without our consent or consultation despite it being our money.Just like the decision to accept the licence fee agreement was taken. And quite possibly the decision about the future of BBC local radio will be taken.

How many of you have heard the BBC Trust ads about their consultation into BBC local radio and are clear that if you do not contribute you will have a peak time only service?

Anyway, it is good news for The World Service.
