Have You Ever Complained To The BBC?

(1/2) > >>

I haven't I must confess but apparently it's a bit of a song and dance whilst jumping through hoops... so the BBC Trusst are doing what they do best a bit, having a public consultation about it.

WARNING random quote.

--- Quote ---ISSUE: The process for dealing with complaints about the way a complaint has been handled and complaints about the Trust, Trust Unit and Trustees has not previously been clearly set out. That has delayed complaints while the Trust Unit decides how best to handle them. Sometimes complaints have not been handled as the complainant expects from their reading of the procedures. This procedure is being changed to give more detail.

... sorry Diane, no I'm not going to explain it...

Rita:
Hello Darcy,
Yes, I've complained many times to the BBC - I could write a book about it if I put my mind to it.  Believe me when I say that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.  From what I can remember, any complaints to the DG are dealt with at Edinburgh I think from a department of people who deal with written complaints and a department of people who deal with e-mails.  I was told that they are "qualified" to deal with them.  I must admit to being quite annoyed at one point because I had specifically wrote "private and confidential" on a letter addressed to the DG and got an answer from someone in Edinburgh weeks later.  If you try to add anything to your complaint you've not much chance, because when I 'phoned Edinburgh, the person who answered didn't even know if the person I had got a reply from worked there, when that was the address on the top of the letter I received!  I find that very inefficient and of course they nevery answer the complaint directly which is infuriating.  They say you're put on a log which goes around to every editor of the BBC etc so they can look at it - but whether they do anything about it is another matter altogether.  The whole process needs to be made simpler.  You have to go through hoops on the internet with the amount of questions that are asked.  End of rant!

Rita:
Does anyone know when the final results of the BBC consultation will be known?  It seems to be taking a long time before it is known what will happen with regard to Local Radio, and, more importantly, the presenters, especially the "freelancers".  It seems very unfair to me that they seem to be left in limbo about what is happening.  Surely there should be some news soon - after all, the consultation closed in December?
Also, has the new petition been "posted" yet?

Hi Rita, apologies if it's been a bit quiet, life has a habit of doing it's own thing to people from time to time.

I think we're expecting word from the trust sometime this month or next.  Until then we can still lobby the Trust and there is nothing to say we can't do so after we know their decision.  Just because the Trust has a grand title and are a lot of well paid people with letters after their names doesn't mean they know jack, as evidenced by Diane Coyles recent embarassing performance at the Regional Conference.

With Mark Thompson going the Executive is now in a state of uncertainty and there will be opportunities to influence the DG appointment, it will just be a case of timing.
