The Castle..(built on pillars of sand)
« on: April 18, 2012, 07:14:41 PM »
The Castle ,Wednesdays 6.30.

This show is horrible. So many shoe horned puns and carry on humour (without the vintage appeal!)..clumsy , ill thought out references to vague current affairs..I actually hoped it was some sort of send up of a genre..but no

So , the only question is who are the program makers and participants related to in the commissioning department of comedy for Radio 4 ?

Such a shame , when they are hogging a slot that usually has such intelligence and genuine humour, such as the Now Show, The News Quiz, Ed Readon, Claire and the Community, not to mention anyone who is not actually in or has contributed to The Castle..

If I had green ink, I would use it ..get this program off..

I have to agree, I've listened to a few, simply because the radio is in my ears but I can't remember laughing once.  You can see the 'jokes' coming from some distance, perhaps they are using a trebuchet to deliver them?

To be fair, the production company have done some great stuff in the past.

The writer though has twice been nominated for Golden Raspberry awards for movie screenplays so we shouldn't be too surprised.  Guess she must know people...

Oh a laugh at last! about this show Darcy, yes I can see the roots here of a comedic genius..or a script writer for teenage pop bands!

I have renamed the Castle.

"Things that you can do between 6.30 and 7pm on a Wednesday"

You really need to paint that bit of skirting board that has been sort of niggling you.

Go on ..sort out your condiment cupboard.

Take the cat for a walk.

Compose an email to the head of comedy of Radio 4..

The possibilities are endless..

If anyone has a Radio Times, can they check if the write-up for this describes it as a comedy set in a castle with medieval jokes?

Oh Darcy, to be fair to it, I listened again this week..And rather than remove my ears followed previous advice tuned out and set to work on cleaning the filters on my fridge(they are self cleaning!!)

Ghastley stuff..funny only to those who say that it is ok to laugh at baseline racist and sexist jokes, and have been told by the Daily Mail that it is a reclaimation of British humour at its best..oh no....

In some interest of fairness, I have tried to listen again tonight..

I am sorry to report that it remains as something very horrible, not funny , not intelligent, poking stupid fun at Andrew LW did not work either..this is something that Radio 4 has payed ye olde  money for?

Questions need to be asked about those who made that decision and who they are related to??

Well fortunately for me my ears were no where near a radio tonight, they'd be better off putting Horrible Histories on radio 4, educational AND FUNNY!  And actually, the jokes are far more sophisticated.
