I have to agree, the BBC failed to have the imagination or class, and it was like a cringing One Show.

So, I will contact Jonathan Dimbleby, as suggested.

The Media Show discussed this today.

I think that it is now time for some of the overpaid/ undertalented BBC executives to face the fact that they are just that and can no longer hide behind valuable public services such as BBC LOCAL RADIO to take the cuts first.

Something is going very wrong at the top, and the cuts must be made there.

There is a lack of excellence and TBH a general lacking in grasp from those paid very highly, and that is becoming quite embarrassing. God knows how  huge relocation to  Salford may have influenced this but, they need a serious review.and that must include a management review generally.

Rita:
Couldn't agree with you more Tiger.  Why should BBC local radio have to suffer because of incompetent managers, who are being paid obscene amounts of money for doing what exactly?
As usual there has been no cuts in salary for managers, or, for that matter, job losses.  The question to be asked is why not?  In any other walk of life, incompetence is dealt with.  As far as I'm concerned, there should have been NO cuts to local radio, and, in my opinion, a 10% cut is still too much for successful local stations such as Merseyside.  You don't "reward" success with swingeing cuts.
Something indeed is going very wrong at the top, and, you are right, the cuts have to be made there.
I agree about a  management review as well.  We, the public, are the shareholders, and we should have some say - we are entitled to - and as long as shareholders sit on the fence about these things, there will be no improvement.  End of rant!

I'd love to say I was surprised by the fare on offer but I can't.  I can accept the BBC had a 'vision' of wishing to capture the atmosphere of the day but is that not what journalists are for?  Newsnight sends Lyse Doucet to Afghanistan for that very reason, not Fearne Cotton or Tess Daly.  Anyone want to see Fearne or Tess sent to Afgh....

The 'shires' are full of perfectly presentable local journos who I'm sure could have reported far more capably on the day.

Perfectly summed up Rita!

And this is just the beginning of a rant!
