The Kershaws and Jimmy Savile.
« on: March 29, 2013, 09:32:15 PM »

Andy Kershaw, went on the record last week in the Telegraph to talk about his perception of Savile.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/jimmy-savile/9949881/The-Jimmy-Savile-scandal-will-not-be-snuffed-out.html

He is able to do that because of his respected status within the radio industry.

In his article he attacks many who sniggered about Savile, but did nothing(righly expressed)

BUT reading his words I find it difficult to believe that after being warned about Savile and indeed informed, he himself did nothing and recounts his first meeting with Savile in a lift and says that he actually tried to shake his hand??

It is ok for those like Kershaw to have a voice, but I am not sure that they are entiltled to blame others, Kershaw says that he did try and alert everyone in his autobiography "No Off Switch" by saying" written and first published while Savile was still alive, I hinted as strongly as I could that there may be a darker side, describing him as a veteran Radio 1 DJ, tireless charity worker, another national institution, widely recognised for his interest in young people.

What ? that is a very weak hint, if ever there was one? does his word "snuffed out" also then hint to something? In which case he should not be writing that in a Telegraph artice he should be in an urgent meeting with Mr and Mrs Plod.

Will have a look at his sister in the next post.

Reply #1 on: Today at 09:01:07 PM PublishQuoteModifyRemoveNow, Liz Kershaw also has a very powerful voice.

She used it when the Savile story broke, she did not talk about the unheard child victims of Savile, she spoke about a culture of sexual bullying that she had to endure as an adult whilst working for Radio 1. That is fair enough, but I remember thinking at the time that it was taking the spotlight away from vulnerable victims of serious child abuse and putting it into a celebrity gossip tabloid bracket?

This week we hear Lucy Adams(Head of HR at the BBC) talking about the very sad case of broadcast journalist Russell Joslin, who took his own life, after trying to tell people in authority at the BBC what was happening to him, Lucy Adams admitted that grave mistakes had been made and his complaints about bullying went unheard and that only by transparancy could that be put right..etc etc

At no time during her on air interviews did she appear transparant, she would not discuss the bulling issue with Richard Bacon on 5 Live, even in general terms(this was on Wednesday pm at 2.45pm) This is pretty shocking given that many  many members of BBC staff were due to withdraw their services the next day because of bullying.

Anyway, with transparancy and the Kershaws in mind this should be posted.
