Wimbledon On 5Live Blah Blah Waffle
« on: June 27, 2013, 06:09:10 PM »
Having given up in recent years on Richard Bacon's celebrity Wimbledon afternoon coverage, I decided  to dip back in.  Bacon has gone and it's down to Inverdale to hold court, fantastic, no more interviews with actors from soaps...

... but still precious little in the way of commentaries, just blah blah waffle, a bit more tennis-centric but still blah blah waffle.

What's the problem?  It happens for just 2 weeks each year.  Fine blah blah waffle if there's a break in play but don't just largely ignore it.  The sport is the important thing here not opinions of presenters and experts.

If anyone else feels the same and has access to a smartphone there's an official Wimbledon app which is free and wil give you complete commentaries from Centre and No.1 courts.

BBC apology for John Inverdale remark about Marion Bartoli

Quote

The BBC has apologised after commentator John Inverdale said Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli was "never going to be a looker".

Inverdale's comments on Radio 5 live as the French player prepared to face Germany's Sabine Lisicki provoked anger from many listeners.

A BBC spokesperson said: "We accept that this remark was insensitive and for that we apologise."

Insensitive, certainly.  Moreover, completely irrelevant to coverage of the sport.

Does John also wonder if Wayne Rooney's dad took him aside as a child and said 'Wayne, you've caught more than your fair share of ugly branches, if you want to be a hit with wimmin you're gonna have to either pay for their company or become a world class footballer'?

Just another case of inane blah waffle blah, another case of a presenter wrongly assuming that we are interested in their opinions.

Ah the joy of Wimbledon is back and if you are wishing to avoid the usual BBC Radio waffle The Official Wimbledon App is back and bigger and better than ever.  Yes I know it can't match the TV coverage but if you are on the go it's a nice little thing.

Oh and well done Andy.
